COFIDES attended a business meeting in Oman, which was held on 26th and 27th October 2010 in the city of Muscat. More than 60 Spanish companies and 200 attendees participated in the event.

In collaboration with the Trade Commission of Spain in Oman, the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) organized the business meeting. The main objective of this encounter was to help to identify business investment and cooperation opportunities as well as potential partners in Oman. During the event, participants had direct contact with firms from Oman that are interested in implementing strategic partnerships with Spanish companies, as well as meeting representatives from the local administration and discovering development plans for the next few years.

The State Secretary for Foreign Trade, Alfredo Bonet, officially opened the business meeting in Muscat. COFIDES took an active role in the opening session in order to provide further information about how Spanish Government and institutions support Spanish investors.

The sectors chosen as priorities for this encounter were environment, water and waste management, renewable energy, electricity, oil and gas, construction, civil engineering, ICT, telecommunications and tourism.

Oman is a priority market for Spain, as can be seen from the Integrated Plan for Market Development (PIDM) in the Gulf Countries for the 2009-2011 period that was implemented by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade to promote economic and trade relations between Spain and those countries, as well as to strengthen the image of Spanish products and companies abroad.
