Madrid, December 11, 2023. COFIDES chairman, José Luis Curbelo, participated in the inauguration of the Bosa Hospital, built by the Ortiz Group and a project on which COFIDES has collaborated.

The hospital, which will benefit more than 400,000 people, is the first medical centre in Colombia built as a state-owned initiative. With a built area of nearly 30,000 meters, it will increase the public health network by providing 215 new beds.

COFIDES chairman, José Luis Curbelo, highlighted that he feels “very proud to take part in the inauguration of a pioneering project that serves as a model at an international level, financed under a collaborative public/private scheme between the Municipality of Bogotá and the consortium formed by the Spanish construction company Ortiz Group and COFIDES.” Likewise, he explained that Spanish public resources “come from the Fund for Foreign Investment (FIEX) and COFIDES.”

In his opinion, the Bosa Hospital “provides the highest standards of healthcare in one of the humblest neighborhoods of the capital. The concession will be valid for 18 years, with the municipality of Bogota and its health services being in charge of the medical assistance end of the project, while the Spanish consortium –in addition to having financed, built, and equipped the hospital's facilities to the highest of standards– is responsible for maintaining the complex at a very high level of service, doing so under the supervision of the municipality.”

Lastly, José Luis Curbelo gave a positive appraisal of the Bosa Hospital model, a pioneer in public/private collaboration for the provision of health services which is already being replicated both in other places in Colombia and in other countries of the region. COFIDES has also expressed its will to continue financing this type of social infrastructure and pointed out that “the capacity of Spanish companies to contribute their proven good work.”

COFIDES supported Ortiz Group in 2021 for the design, construction, provision, and maintenance of the Bosa Hospital in Colombia. COFIDES acquired a shareholding status of 45% in the company Promotora Hospital de Bosa, S.A.S., as well as 45% of the subordinated debt, for a maximum amount of 11 million euros.
