Madrid, March 24, 2026. COFIDES is facilitating Nexus Energía’s consolidation in Portugal, where the group is a leading player in electricity and gas commercialization, sustainability and energy transition services, and renewable energy representation. To this end, COFIDES has provided a loan through the Foreign Investment Fund (FIEX) to enable Nexus Energía to acquire 100% of Luzboa, the electricity retailer through which it operates in Portugal.
Nexus Energía had already received COFIDES support in 2024 to acquire an additional 32% of Luzboa’s capital, adding to the 51% stake it already controlled, through a co-investment loan of €2.2M. With the current transaction to purchase the remaining 17% from its two partners, Nexus Energía completes the full integration of its Portuguese subsidiary.
This new investment strengthens the group’s presence in the Portuguese market and reinforces its international growth strategy in a country that has become one of its main growth hubs.
Miguel Ángel Ladero, COFIDES’ Chief Investment Officer, highlighted: “the importance of supporting companies committed to renewable energy, such as Nexus Energía, in their internationalization efforts, enabling us to advance together toward a sustainable energy transition while reinforcing sustainability criteria in their strategy.”
Miguel Fandiño, CEO of Grupo Nexus Energía, added: “We are very pleased to have completed this financial transaction, which strengthens our commitment to our Portuguese subsidiary. The positive progress we have made since entering the market gives us optimism about the future, and we remain committed to developing innovative and sustainable energy solutions for Portugal.”
