COFIDES hosts the meeting of the Executive Committee and the Assembly of the Global Compact Spain
Madrid, June 18, 2015. Compañía Española de Financiación del Desarrollo, COFIDES, SA has hosted the meeting of the Executive Committee and the General Assembly of the Global Compact Spain.
COFIDES Chairman and CEO, Salvador Marin spoke at the meeting of the Assembly to welcome the participants and emphasised the importance of, as well as the role that the Global Compact Network Spain performs.
The Ordinary General Assembly approved almost unanimously, the 2014 annual accounts and the budgets for the next twelve months in a meeting in which the results of last year projects were presented as well as the new projects for next year.
Amongst the most important milestones in the coming months, is the celebration of a large event to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, where the new Sustainable Development Goals and their application to Spanish business will be presented.
After the Assembly, a conference was held to present the new tools, designed to enable the companies to deploy and to improve the implementation of the Guiding Principles of Human Rights.
COFIDES - SIGNATARY SINCE 2005
COFIDES has been a signatory of the Global Compact since 2005 and a part of the Executive Committee of the Global Compact Network since 2008. COFIDES is a combined private-public concern, which for more than 25 years has provided financial support to the overseas investment of Spanish enterprises. COFIDES manages the FIEX and FONPYME funds on behalf of the State Secretariat of Commerce, within the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. The shareholders include the Bank of Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), Santander Bank, Popular Bank, Sabadell Bank and CAF-Development Bank of Latin America.
The Global Compact Network Spain is managed and represented by a steering committee with a chairman, one deputy chairman, a secretary, a treasurer and 16 directors elected by the network’s General Assembly. The Steering Committee has representatives from large companies, SMEs, the public sector, educational entities and NGOs. Its members also represent the Spanish Global Compact Network in various forums and meetings organised by other entities.
The United Nations Global Compact (Global Compact) is an international initiative that promotes the implementation of a set of ten, universally-accepted principles in the areas of Human Rights, Labour Standards, the environment and anti-corruption, and takes actions that advance society-based goals. With over 12,000 signatories based in 145 countries, it is the largest voluntary initiative of corporate social responsibility in the world. It operates in Spain through the Spanish Network, which currently has 2,600 entities: of which 12% are large companies, 72% are SMEs and 16% are other types of entities (third sector, labor union / trade associations and educational institutions).
