Madrid, April 6, 2026. COFIDES has granted a €175k co-investment loan to Supracafé, a leading company in coffee commercialization, to support its sustainable expansion in Colombia. The financing will enhance operations across the 120 hectares of coffee plantations managed by the company in Cauca, a key region for thousands of producers whose livelihoods depend directly on coffee cultivation. The total investment for the project amounts to €250k.

The funding, provided through the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Foreign Investment Fund (FONPYME), will be used to establish a collection center equipped to receive, sort, and store coffee, as well as to acquire machinery that will optimize the coffee production process.

Additionally, the investment will allow Supracafé Colombia to further develop into a centralized purchasing hub, optimizing its value chain and enhancing the quality of the 100% Arabica coffee the company exports to Spain for roasting, packaging, and marketing.

SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS MODEL

Through this operation, COFIDES contributes to consolidating a sustainable business model that generates rural employment, strengthens local roots in vulnerable areas, and enhances the competitiveness of small producers in a sector critical to Colombia’s economic and social development. Supracafé’s project places special emphasis on hiring, inclusion, and the empowerment of local women, many of whom have been affected by the armed conflict in the region.

Supracafé Colombia has also developed the country’s first Coffee Technology Park (TECNICAFÉ), a pioneering initiative for innovation, technology transfer, and production strengthening that already benefits over 35,000 producers and 500 coffee-farming families, reinforcing sector sustainability.

This is the second collaboration between COFIDES and Supracafé, following a 2017 project in which COFIDES was recognized by UNCTAD for promoting impact investment.

Miguel Ángel Ladero, COFIDES’ Chief Investment Officer, noted: “This operation reflects our commitment to supporting Spanish SMEs and the agri-food sector in Latin America. It also strengthens the agrotech ecosystem and contributes to the socioeconomic development of local communities, particularly women.”

Ricardo Oteros, CEO of Supracafé, added: “It is extremely important for Supracafé to have COFIDES’ support once again for our Cauca project in Colombia. This strategic initiative, developed over 16 years in partnership with local coffee producers, focuses on high-quality coffee production, innovation, and impact, with social and environmental sustainability at its core.”
