Funding mechanism for private investments in developing countries and economies.

COFIDES, in conjunction with members of the Association of European Development Finance Institutions (EDFI) and the European Development Bank (EIB), have collaborated since 2004 in European Financing Partners (EFP), a vehicle for the co-financing of private sector enterprises in developing countries and economies.

The key characteristics of the financial support provided are as follows:

  • Eligible projects: Private investment projects in developing countries and economies.
  • Types of financial support:
    • Capital holdings
    • Joint venture loans
    • Ordinary medium and long-term loans. Securities to mobilise resources in local currencies.
  • Ceiling: €30m per project with a cap of 75% of the total investment.
  • Minimum: €1m
  • Present capital endowment (2013): €225m as extraordinary input.
  • Access: This line is managed by the European bilateral development finance institutions. interested companies should apply to COFIDES in their capacity as country manager.
